Mountain Hua
Mountain Hua is located in Huayin County, about 120 kilometers east of
Xi'an City in Shaanxi Province. It is real natural beauty with the Wei
River to its north and Qinling Mountains to the south. As traditionally
saying that Mountain Hua is one of the five sacred mountains in China
with an altitude of 2,200 meters above the sea level. There are five peaks
standing in a circle and confronting each other: the Morning Sun Peak,
the Lotus Flower Peak, the Jade Lady Peak, the Landing Wild Goose-resting
Peak and the Cloudy Terrace Peak, all of which have formed a lotus-shaped
flower. Owning to what, Mountain Hua was originally named Mountain Taihua.
Ever since ancient times, Mt. Hua is notable for its majestic breath-taking
crags, steep paths, beautiful scenery and it is said to be the most precipitous
mountain in the world that until now there was just one perilous way to
get the mountaintop.
South Peak--Landing
Wild Goose-resting Peak
It is 2100 meters above sea level, the highest peak of Mt. Hua and the
Five Sacred Mountains. On its top, it is a water pond called some exquisite
inscriptions. Only travelers reaching here can claim they've arrived at
the real peak of perfection. Around, a fantastic view presents itself
before the eye: drifting sea of clouds hanging over crowded peaks and
ridges in the west; 800 Li flat land of Central Shanxi Plain in the north,
and to the east the Yellow River in Tongguan area like a floating ribbon
coming from a far.
North Peak-- Cloudy
Terrace Peak
The Cloudy Terrace Peak is in laojunli gorge area, where the way to the
top consists of some 570 steps with the steep cliffs on the one side and
on the other is the plumbless valley. The steel chain along the path gives
the mountain climbers an indispensable aid. With all its three sides being
perilous cliffs, the North Peak has its only way out through the south
chine.
West Peak-- Lotus
Flower Peak
An enchanting peak erected straightly vertically into the sky. Looking
around from its top, the landforms of Shaanxi and Gansu spread endlessly,
and Wei River and Luo River thread their ways across them like two silver
ribbons. In front of the Peak, a sleeping-liked green dragon-shaped ridge
called "Cengling". The Peak's west side is a precipitous cliff,
while the east side is a steep rocky slope with a secluded dense forest
near by. On the top of the peak, stands a temple, with a huge rock shaped
like a lotus flower in front, for what people endue it with the beautiful
name "Lotus Flower Peak".
East Peak--Morning
Sun Peak
As its name goes, the Morning Sun Peak as well turned out to be a fantastic
sight that filled with energy and imagination. On its top, there is the
"Sun Platform" for viewing the sunrise. About 700 meters away
in the west direction, Landing Wild Goose Peak with dangerous cliffs and
tall pine trees, towers. Looking southward, the Qinling Mountains with
its high and low ridges and peaks ripple like a vast sea. Looking downward,
there is a vast expanse of plain, and the rivers, now hidden and now visible
are winding their way across the land. Sounds nice.
Today
Until recently there was only one way to reach the top of Mt. Hua since
ancient times. Most of the trail is very narrow and steep; some parts
are almost vertical. Iron chains have been set up along the path, but
courage and an adventurous spirit are still necessary if you decide to
climb Mt. Hua on foot.
Recent developments have added two alternate ways of traveling to the
summit. Now you can take the ropeway, or ride in a cable car to enjoy
the unique scenery of Mt. Hua. |
